What I thought I Was

Before You Continue Reading...

Before you continue reading this page, I want to ask you for one thing.

Please don't judge the child who wrote these words.

She was trying to understand feelings she didn't yet have the language to explain.

She wasn't looking for attention.

She wasn't trying to frighten anyone.

She was simply trying to survive in the only way she knew how.

The handwriting has been intentionally blurred to protect the private thoughts of the little girl who wrote these pages.

What remains is not meant to expose her.

It's meant to honor her.

Because today, I no longer see these pages as evidence of who I was.

I see them as proof of how far healing can take us.

As you continue reading, I hope you'll remember something.

Sometimes the pages we hide the longest become the pages that help someone else feel less alone.
