There comes a moment in healing that doesn't arrive with celebration or certainty. It arrives quietly.
For me, that moment came through tears.
For a long time, I had been holding everything inside. I kept showing up to work, taking care of my children, going to therapy, exercising, praying, and trying to convince myself that I was okay. I wasn't avoiding my pain—I was carrying it the best way I knew how.
Then one day, someone told me that my ex-husband was expecting a baby.
The news caught me off guard. For a moment, all the emotions I thought I had under control came rushing back. Instead of staying silent, I reacted. I said things I wish I hadn't. Looking back, I realized my words didn't come from anger—they came from pain.
Later that day, I cried.
Not because I wanted him back.
Not because I wished things had been different.
I cried because I finally understood that I was grieving the life I thought I would have. I was grieving the future I had imagined, the family I believed would stay together, and the dreams that ended when my marriage did.
Those tears became a turning point.
For the first time, I felt ready to let go.
Letting go doesn't mean pretending nothing happened. It doesn't mean forgetting the hurt or saying what happened was okay. It means accepting that I cannot control another person's choices. I cannot change the past. I cannot decide what happens in someone else's life.
What I can control is how I move forward.
Today, I choose to pray for him instead of carrying bitterness.
I choose to focus on my children, my healing, my faith, and the life I am rebuilding.
I choose peace.
If you are reading this while carrying your own heartbreak, I want you to know that healing isn't always loud. Sometimes it begins with tears. Sometimes it begins the moment you realize you're tired of carrying what was never yours to hold.
You don't have to have all the answers today.
Just take the next step.
One day, you'll look back and realize that the day you thought you were breaking was actually the day you began to heal.
Reflection
What is one thing you are ready to let go of today?
You don't have to answer anyone else.
Just be honest with yourself.
Healing begins there.
